Each gram contains
acyclovir, USP 50mg (the active ingredient in
Zovirax®) in a polyethylene glycol base (ointment).
Acyclovir is the
anti-viral active ingredient in Zovirax® that is used to treat herpes
cold sores.
Acyclovir works to inhibit
DNA polymerase; incorporates into viral DNA, thus preventing further viral
DNA synthesis without affecting normal cellular processes.

This product is used to
reduce the severity and shorten the duration of cold sores.
For the treatment of
cutaneous herpes, use at the first sign of onset and apply 6 times a
day for 7 days.
