It increases the output of respiratory tract fluid by reducing adhesiveness and surface tension facilitating removal of viscous mucus. Dextromethorphan HBr is a non-narcotic cough suppressant. Guaidrine DM™ is not for persistent cough such as occurs with smoking, asthma or emphysema, or where cough is accompanied by excessive secretions.  Persistent cough may indicate a serious condition.  If cough persists for more than 1 week, tends to recur, or is accompanied by high fever, rash or persistent headache, consult a physician.  Guadrine DM™ is also not what you should use if treating FMS.  For FMS therapy, click here.
