Warning:  These are very large tablets.  If you have difficulty swallowing large tablets you may prefer the 600mg tablets instead.  They may be broken in half however.

Guaifenesin loosens and thins phlegm and bronchial secretions to ease expectoration. It increases the output of respiratory tract fluid by reducing adhesiveness and surface tension facilitating removal of viscous mucus.

There have been some reports that guaifenesin may be effective for treatment of fibromyalgia although controlled studies have not definitively proven the effectiveness for this condition.

Guaifenesin is not for persistent cough such as occurs with smoking, asthma or emphysema, or where cough is accompanied by excessive secretions.  Persistent cough may indicate a serious condition.  If cough persists for more than 1 week, tends to recur, or is accompanied by high fever, rash or persistent headache, consult a physician.

Side effects of guaifenesin are rare.  The most commonly reported  are nausea or vomiting.  Some patients experience dizziness, headache, or rash.
